THE OAKS Staff

Dan and Christine Smith

As the seasons change, not only are the flowers blooming and the weather changing, but the range of activity is shifting to a whole new level as various programs ramp up as well as guest groups continue to fill the facilities!  These are encouraging times of ministry at THE OAKS for Dan and Christine as God directs and provides in a variety of ways! Dan enjoys his responsibilities as Assistant Director, as well as working more closely with the various departments to coordinate projects and operations. As Dan assists with operations and meeting regularly with various department heads, he has been involved in the adjustments needed to utilize these facilities and the opportunities for expanded ministry and more effective and creative programs has been a huge blessing. In the fall of 2009, Dan began teaching courses from The Urban Ministry Institute (TUMI) at THE OAKS and giving oversight to the intern program. Christine continues into her sixth year as dining room supervisor, overseeing two dining halls and about ten hourly staff, equipment and facility upkeep and chairing the Food Service Committee. Christine is also meeting regularly with several staff wives for accountability, prayer, and encouragement. Both Dan and Christine continue as part of the Leaders-In-Training staff while the 20 teens train at THE OAKS in the summer, through teaching classes, planning activities, and on-the-job training in food service.

The three wonderful Smith young ladies are actively involved in ministry situations and having the time of their lives! Shelley is on schedule to graduate from Fresno Pacific University with a major in Social Work and minor in Intercultural Studies. Valorie, who graduated from Fresno Pacific University in Spring 2008, serves as Youth Director for Light and Life Urban Ministry in Fresno, a missional effort to impact communities, and enjoys bringing people from her community to THE OAKS for a variety of camping experiences. Alyssa graduated from Grace University in May 2006 and works for The Hope Center in Omaha. She is the educational coordinator for this Christian after-school program for inner-city students where she has taken this program to a whole new level of excellence.

The relationships, facility development and expanding services to inner-city ministries and many other guest groups continue to inspire the Smiths with enthusiasm for continued ministry with World Impact at THE OAKS!
