For the Ministries
How does THE OAKS fit into World Impact?
World Impact is a Christian missions organization dedicated to ministering God's love in the inner cities of America. Its purpose is to honor and glorify God and delight in Him in the inner cities by knowing God and making Him known. World Impact ministers cross-culturally to people unreached by the gospel of Jesus Christ through evangelism, follow-up, discipleship and indigenous church-planting. World Impact empowers urban disciples; training leadership for the advancement of the Kingdom of God.
Our Ministry is:Incarnational -- Our missionaries live in the communities where they minister.
Evangelical -- We present Christ to the un-churched through Bible clubs, Bible studies, and worship services.
Discipleship-oriented -- We nurture people to maturity in Christ and train them to teach others.
Compassionate -- We demonstrate the gospel we declare by providing:
- Christian elementary and middle schools
- Emergency food, clothing, medicine and shelter
- Christian camping and retreats
- Job training
- Tutoring
- Sports and recreation programs
- Medical and dental clinics
THE OAKS is World Impact's West Coast camp, serving the urban and at-risk of California. Paintball is just one of dozens of fun outdoors activities available at THE OAKS nestled among the oak and pine forests of the northeastern San Gabriel Mountains 1-1/2 hours north of Los Angeles. Over 600 acres of wilderness allow for serenity as you hike along our many trails and enjoy God’s awesome beauty. THE OAKS serves our California city ministries which include San Diego, Los Angeles, Watts, Fresno, San Francisco, and Oakland. We also serve other urban churches and inner-city ministries such as the Union Rescue Mission, Solidarity, and Neighborhood Impact.
When can we come to camp and how much will it cost? The cost for camp is listed below. This cost is much less than any camp with such quality programming, staff and facilities specifically for inner-city and at-risk campers. We suggest that you have your kids pay at least $5-$10 a day. Asking them for $5 in five periodic installments leading up to camp builds commitment on their part. You will need to put down 10% of your camper's cost to reserve your places. Our camps run from 3:00 PM the first day until 1:00 PM on the last day. Except Sr. High which ends at 11:00 AM.

What can campers do?
There is never a dull moment here at THE OAKS. The moment you step foot on our grounds, you will be welcomed by our incredible staff who have all been blessed with a burden, the burden of serving our Creator by serving you and your kids. We are here to come alongside of your ministry, to bless and encourage you throughout your stay with us.
To incorporate our mission of building up Oaks of Righteousness for the display of His splendor, we require each of our campers to attend our Bible time, which can range from teaching to presenting biblical principles through experiential learning. Our aspiration during this time is that God will reveal His truth to our campers through the variety of methods.
Being at camp, we want to create an atmosphere that is geared towards fun and excitement. Our program continues to grow every year. We can proudly offer our Zipline, Leap of Faith, High Ropes Courses, Rock Climbing, Canoeing, Jet Skiing, Tubing, and Paintballing. We also offer a variety of classes ranging from basketball and soccer to skate park and dance.
After being surrounded by the splendor of God's creation throughout the day, we like to take time in the evening to reflect on what God has been teaching us and to hear Him speak through others. Our fire circle program consists of dramas, worship, inspirational speakers, and much more. This is a precious time of coming together as an entire camp to be immersed in the presence of our Savior.
How is the staff? Two and a half weeks of in-depth preparation is given to our staff, including a week of immersion training at one of our inner-city ministry sites. Our staff come from diverse backgrounds across the country. Every one of them loves God with their whole heart and wants nothing more than to bless your kids. Many staff return for several summers and go on to full-time ministry.
What are some of the requirements for participating ministries?- Ministries must possess a similar philosophy of ministry, understanding of the Christian faith and be willing to submit to camp leadership and policies during the camp sessions.
- Ministries must provide one mature adult counselor of the same gender who has a relationship with the kids for every ten kids of that gender. This policy assures follow up and helps kids feel secure and safe in a new environment. It also assures a good ratio of staff to campers. We also provide at least one trained OAKS counselor per cabin. Please select and train someone who has a heart for the urban poor and who understands some of their challenges. You may also want to make sure your youth workers follow up and invite them to your regular times of worship, Sunday school and fellowship.
- These adult counselors MUST attend a mandatory counselor orientation if it is their first time as a volunteer counselor at THE OAKS. We will come to a World Impact site close to you and offer this orientation there.
- If you are bringing a total of ten or fewer kids, you may bring only one counselor of either gender, but one of each gender is still preferred.
- Ministries are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from the camp and providing any meals required in transit. Ministries are trusted to provide adequate background checks on their counselors and are responsible for their staff's and/or volunteer's actions.
- All forms must be filled out completely and returned nine days or more before camp starts for your campers and counselors to participate. This task will take a lot of time and effort up front, but will save us both from having to sadly refuse a person upon arrival due to incomplete forms.
