What are Guests saying about The Oaks?

Re-dedications, salvations and huge strides towards a closer communion with Christ are just some of the ways that I saw God work. As I led my campers towards Jesus, God definitely tugged at my own heart and drew me into a deeper intimacy with Him...life changing!
The result of the retreat at The Oaks this past weekend was amazing, four people accepted Jesus Christ, and two couples were separated, but at the end of our retreat they promised to work hard at restoring their marriage. That's the result of almost two months praying and praying for them and for this retreat and at the end God is so good with us.......AMEN.
We came expecting many things and our expectations were exceeded on every level. The best report I can give is that God met with us in a very meaningful and memorable way. Because of your spiritual service, many men were blessed and touched by God. So, again, thank you and be encouraged that God is using you and your efforts to help the kingdom of God blossom and bear fruit. I just wish you could have heard the testimonies when we got back to church on Sunday!

I've been there many, many years, and it's awesome.
The people are super friendly, the food is delicious, great service, the atmosphere is excellent. Get away from the world and feel God's presences there it's the best vacation ever-- I recommend to anyone.
Amazing place to meet with God.

What can I say... Everything about The Oaks is wonderful. The people, the food, and just the FUN! I went when I was 9 and 10. It was the best experience EVER.

I can't wait to come back and run across the open field, spending time getting to know my brothers and sisters in Christ, or learning more about the love of God at The Oaks!
This is a great retreat site with a friendly and helpful staff. The meeting rooms are very nice and have all the equipment I would need. Our church has gone here many times over the years and we plan to keep going.

I have experienced God in unique ways by just having the open space to pray, worship, journal, strategize, and even play. Our camp and conference centers provide a place for community to be built in new ways.

Efrem Smith, Co-lead Pastor at Bayside Church Midtown

When urban churches attend the programs and book a retreat there is something unique which occurs in this concentrated time of ministry. Lives open up, vulnerability and reception are at a new level, campers feel at home and claim these grounds as their own.

Evangel Church Planting School

May 31 - June 2, 2018

For over twenty years World Impact and The Urban Ministry Institute have been equipping church planters working among the urban poor in the United States and around the world. Thousands of urban church leaders have received church plant training during this time and more than 150 church plants have been commissioned in partnership with local churches, associations, and denominations.

The Evangel School of Urban Church Planting provides a tool for urban churches, denominations, and mission agencies to host a contextualized church plant school in their city or region for those God has called to plant churches among the urban poor.

More information about Evangel School of Urban Church Planting can be found on the TUMI website.

Full-time ministry – though rewarding – is exhausting, and we get that. In our ever-accelerating world, taking time to renew your soul is vital for your well-being, and we want to make sure you can get that time away. That’s why we have a place for anyone in full-time ministry (and their spouse) to come for a two-night stay.

Partner ministries you stay is on us, non-partner ministries your stay will be $25 a night

Our Shepherd’s Rest is tucked away on a quiet corner of camp and provides you with a fully furnished suite, a private bathroom, and a shared living room and kitchen. This allows you to simply come and avoid worrying about accommodations; just enjoy the spectacular views of the Sierra Pelona Mountains, read and pray on the patio, or take a walk on one of the many beautiful trails around camp. You’ll discover that the Shepherd’s Rest provides the perfect place to be renewed.

Details

  • The free two-night stay is for weekdays only.

  • The stay is restricted to pastors or others in full-time ministry (and their spouses if they wish to join). No children or pets allowed.

  • Due to high demand, reservations may need to be made anywhere from several weeks to several months in advance.

  • A full-service kitchen (fridge, stove, cookware, etc.) is provided.

To book the Shepherd’s Rest, call our registration office at

661-724-1018.

The Oaks Leadership Institute

Been looking for the next step? Here it is.

If you’re like most young adults, it can be hard to know what steps to take for your future. That’s why we created a program specifically designed to help you thrive. The Oaks Leadership institute is crafted around empowering you in four key areas, the personal, practical, relational, and missional spheres of your life.

- Grow spiritually. One of the core objectives of this program is to help you flourish in your walk with the Lord. We do that through meaningful study of scripture together, corporate worship times, and opportunities to be intentionally discipled.

- Gain confidence. Through classes in personal development and opportunities to lead, you’ll be challenged and given confidence to lead and influence your world.

- Discover your passions. You will be given the chance to experience a whole range of different job types around camp, giving you a chance to discover and hone in on your talents and passions.

- Earn income. Unlike many yearlong programs for young adults, The Oaks Leadership Institute provides free housing, free food whenever the dining hall is open, and a monthly stipend of $700 dollars to attend. We recognize that providing financial support needs to be a part of our program to successfully set you up for your future.

- Gain work experience. As part of the program, attendees will be trained and given the opportunity to serve in departments all across camp, gaining valuable work experience in food service, accommodations, as a coffee shop barista, and with additional other roles possible (like videography, group hosting, and landscaping).

- Receive mentorship. The vision behind providing this work experience isn’t just to toss you into a role and wish you luck, but rather to intentionally train you for the job and provide mentorship and instruction along the way from experienced staff in each position.

- Experience community. Life doesn’t happen in a vacuum. We all grow best when we’re surrounded by a supportive, strong community, and that’s what we provide here through the opportunity to live, work, relax, eat, and have fun together as a community.

- Develop friendships. The structure of our program creates an environment for friendships to thrive. Serving, learning, and living with like-minded young adults gives you the opportunity to form deep friendships.

- Grow through fellowship. There’s also a powerful spiritual element provided through a deep commitment to relationships with other believers. The environment we’ve created is designed to foster a strong community around you to point you to Christ and help you grow.

- Gain vision. Whether you already know exactly what passion God has placed on your life or you’re trying to figure that out, we provide practical experience and teaching centered around helping you discover how to use your gifts for the Lord.

- Develop a heart for the city. One of the unique privileges we have as an urban ministry located an hour and a half from Los Angeles is to engage in and develop a heart for urban ministry. Through ministry trips to the city and opportunities to serve urban groups at The Oaks, you will able to participate in this vital role of the Church serving the city.

- Be equipped. Through practical training in ministry and leadership, through helpful teaching and Bible studies, and through opportunities to put the learning into practice, you will be given the tools, knowledge, and experience to make a difference in your world.

Details

Recruiting Resources

We want to help you see lives changed at your event! In order for that to happen, however, you need people to sign up! We know that marketing a retreat and actually getting sign ups can be a difficult and time intensive process, which is why we want to help make it easier for you by providing you with some tips and resources!

We've learned a few tricks of the trade over the years about how to successfully promote retreats. Here are the top five most helpful ones we've discovered:

  1. Use as many communication mediums as possible. People often don't sign up for something after hearing about it the first time, so utilize a whole range of methods to spread the word. Some ideas include using bulletin inserts, slides, video promos, announcements, signup sheets after an announcement, Facebook event invites, posts on your church/ministry Facebook/Instagram page, email reminders, word-of-mouth recruiters (who are relational, not pushy), and even invitations to other churches or ministries. Combining many of these methods together also builds hype which prompts people to actually stop and consider whether they want to attend.
  2. Word of mouth is your best friend. The multiple points of contact listed above are valuable, but in the end nothing is as effective as the encouragement of a friend. When people are invited to attend an event because someone they know wants them to be there, it adds a much stronger incentive to attend. Consider enlisting (and maybe even incentivizing… a Starbucks gift card never hurt anyone!) registered attendees to get their friends to sign up!
  3. Address the roadblocks. Sometimes those who would might be interested in the retreat immediately dismiss the idea of attending because they believe there's some roadblock preventing them from attending. Determining what those hindrances are and then explaining how you help them get around it will expand the pool of individuals who will seriously think about attending. For example, if you're providing childcare, let people know! That might prompt a mom with young kids to switch from instantly dismissing the thought of attending to actually giving it serious consideration.
  4. Follow-up personally. Now days many people seem hesitant to commit to an event right away, even if they are genuinely interested in going. Keep track of those who have expressed some interest but didn't sign up right away; as the retreat approaches, send them a personal follow-up asking if they are still interested. This can help move people from sitting on the fence to making a decision.
  5. Make your promo pull, not push. Instead of trying to convince everyone to attend by pushing them to come, show them how it would add value to their lives; this will pull them in and get them excited about it. Think of what motivates your potential attendees; how can you tell a story or craft your appeal to speak to those desires?

But we don't want to leave you with just head knowledge about how to promote, we also want to equip you with practical tools to help in this process. Take a look at the options below to see what might be valuable to you as you recruit:
